Tell about a time you had a negative interaction with authority with Dr. Rosie Courville
In this episode, Raven and Selena sit down with superstar educator Dr. Rosie Courville and talk about author authority figures, rule following, and how relationships with those in charge can impact your life and perspective.
Dr. Rosie Courville is a native of the Georgia piedmont. She has grown into her mother's full-throated country accent and makes a point of no longer feeling shame about how she sounds when she talks. In 2006, she graduated cum laude from Wesleyan College in Macon, GA with a Bachelor of Arts in English and French. That summer, she moved to Baton Rouge to begin a graduate program in the Department of French Studies at Louisiana State University. After 7 years of graduate school, Rosie finally admitted to herself that she HATED academia while riding on the escalator on the way to present at the Modern Language Association annual conference. Rosie transitioned to K-12 education after completing her PhD and taught English and French at a Baton Rouge high school for 5 years. During that time, she decided that her work in the classroom was not stressful enough and also served as a department chair, Senior Sponsor, Club sponsor for 3 clubs, and co-leader of the school's new teacher induction program. When she finally decided to leave the classroom to move towards school leadership, she cried for a week straight. Rosie worked for 3 years as a teacher coach with an educational non-profit. For the last two years, she has worked in a rural Louisiana school district - first as a literacy coach and now as an assistant principal. Rosie lives out in the country with her Louisiana boy husband and a darling little blond nugget of a son. There are three cats that allow the family to live in their house in exchange for the humans' absolute devotion and servitude.
